What is the International Facility Management Association?
Founded in 1980, the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) is the world’s largest, most widely recognized association for facility management (FM) professionals. Supporting more than 24,000 members in over 130 countries, IFMA is a key contributor to the development of international FM standards and works with decision makers to inform FM-related policy.
IFMA provides career resources and continuing education, offers three industry-respected credentials, maintains the largest repository of FM-related content on the web and hosts year-round global events. With a vision to lead the future of the built environment to make the world a better place, IFMA believes in the benefit of global diversity, inclusion and social equity, and recognizes that sustainability, resilience and responsible environmental stewardship are paramount.

Indianapolis Chapter History
Our chapter's founders, Iva Benjamin and Sam Johnson, began discussions about creating an IFMA chapter in Indianapolis in the early 1980s.
They started with a group of six facility managers who began to meet regularly. After months of dedication, they were able to gather the minimum ten facility managers to formally create the IFMA Indianapolis chapter in the spring of 1984. The chapter was officially chartered on April 19, 1985.
30 years later, our chapter has grown just like our city -- stronger than ever with close to 200 members, including over 100 facility professionals.
Our chapter is also fortunate to have a large number of associate member partners, members upon whom facility professional members rely to assist with projects and improve the quality of life for their buildings' occupants.
Over the past 30 years, our chapter has not only strived to Advance the Facility Management Profession, but we have also worked to give back to our community by supporting numerous charitable organizations. The Indianapolis chapter is also proud to regularly support the IFMA Foundation’s scholarship program. Several recipients of our scholarship are still active in our chapter which helps to sustain efforts to advance the education and impact of future facility professionals.
